TruePreview 1.8a2 released

I have released an updated (but still incomplete alpha version) of TruePreview, TruePreview 1.8a2. This version only adds support for OS X 10.7.2 (Mail 5.1) and reverts to the old installer that actually worked.

The following is still true in this version: Due to changes in Apple's code, the reply, forward, and scroll/click options are unimplemented and disabled in this version. I will (hopefully) add them back when I figure out how to make them work. So, this version only contains the delay (immediate, never, X seconds) and "Viewing in a separate window" functionality. NOTE: This version is only for Lion and Mail 5.0-5.1. If you have an older version, please continue to use version 1.7.

had the same question.  open finder and click go on the menu bar at the top.  hold down option and it will reveal the library folder.  click the library folder and follow the path indicated in the instructions.

Getting TruePreview to work with Mail 5.2

Quit Mail.app

Download and reinstall TruePreview 1.8a2 (for some reason, my copy went missing after my upgrade)

open Terminal.app and do the following:

cd ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/TruePreview.mailbundle/Contents

use your favorite text editor to Info.plist

Scroll down until you see:

 

        <key>SupportedPluginCompatibilityUUIDs</key>

        <array>

                <string>2DE49D65-B49E-4303-A280-8448872EFE87</string>

                <string>1146A009-E373-4DB6-AB4D-47E59A7E50FD</string>

                <string>6E7970A3-E5F1-4C41-A904-B18D3D8FAA7D</string>

        </array>

Add the following UUID for Mail.app 5.2 to the end of the SupportedPluginCompatibilityUUIDs list

Save, and start up Mail.app.  Everything should work fine

Yes, I agree it would be excellent if Jim was able to complete the development to add these features. I made a good donation to get the basic functionality completed, which was great.  However I will be more than happy to donate again if someone can provide an update depicting whether or not these added features ARE in fact being worked on or expected to be complete at some point.

This version worked like a charm for me and I REALLY appreciate your hard work on this.  Too bad Apple wont make this an option so you can go on vacation Smile

A Workaround Until Jim's Ready

I got my 4s and upgraded everything to Lion and couldn't wait for Jim's updated version of this great plugin so I developed a workaround that I thought I'd share.

I created a rule so every single email that comes in from any of my mailboxes is marked with a red flag. Then I created smart mailboxes that used to capture my unread messages (that I previewed yet stayed as "unread" thanks to Jim) and changed them to show emails with red flags. That's it. Now an email comes in, is marked with a red flag, and shows up in the approrpiate smart mailbox. When I preview/read it it still stays in that smart mailbox until I change/delete the flag.

This approach works for me.
